Course Description:

This course is an introductory class in swift water rescue. Students will learn the skills needed to perform proper rescue techniques in a variety of different situations in river conditions up to class II. Lecture topics will include River anatomy, rescue equipment, types of rescues, in field risk management and decision making, and emergency call out protocols. Labs consist of various mock rescue pool and river sessions. These sessions and trips will provide students with opportunities to observe, discuss, and develop swift water rescue fundamentals while critically thinking about the challenges inherent in safely negotiating a swift water rescue.
