Course Description:
First Year Seminar is a bridge to the Paul Smith's College learning community. The course introduces first year students to a seminar-format learning environment in which students and instructors create an academic dialog that connects students with essential ideas, people, and resources. This predominantly discussion based course engages students in the big questions that confront individuals and groups as they develop the insight, skills, and support systems they need to meet personal and professional goals. The overarching goals for the course include engaging students in the process of imagination and expression, developing personal and social responsibility, and creating awareness of interdependency and critical aspects of sustainability. Through reflective activities, readings and discussions students will develop decision making skills, oral and written skills and a personal action plan that will guide independent, confident, decision making toward achievement of life goals. Completes General Education Requirements:H-F, LAS,RE-F.
