Course Description:

This course will explore concepts and practices of healing from biomedical and religious perspectives, so as to explore in what way(s) the modern distinctions between biomedical healing and
religious healing are simultaneously meaningful and artificial. This exploration will include a number of contested moral issues in biomedical practices from religious and philosophical perspectives, including but not limited to: medical therapies inclusive of patient religious or spiritual practices; faith and the placebo effect; cultural competency with respect to patients religious heritages and practices in relation to patient care; witholding medical treatment on religious grounds (for adults and/or children); fertility, contraception(s), IVF, birthing, reproductive choice, and sexual health; stem cell therapies; CRISPR/gene therapy; cloning; and end of life care and decisions.
