ADMISSIONS

Mercyhurst University is a community of learners grounded in the Mercy tradition and dedicated to the lifelong development of the whole person. Applicants are evaluated from a holistic perspective in the context of opportunities they have been afforded and challenges they have faced. In addition to considering the academic achievement and potential, special attention is also given to leadership experience, extracurricular involvement, community service, and the contributions an applicant might make to enrich and contribute to our campus community. Artistic or athletic talent are also considered.

Mercyhurst does not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, sex, citizenship status, ancestry, national or ethnic origin, age, familial status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, physical or mental disability, military or veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic or because of any individual’s legally protected activities. Demographic information does not factor into decisions regarding admissions or institutional financial aid; it helps us evaluate our recruitment practices and comply with federal reporting requirements.

To be considered for a bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or certificate program, applicants are required to submitan application; a high school transcript or other evidence of high school completion or equivalency (e.g., a GED diploma or certificate and substantiating scores); and, in some cases, a writing sample or letter of recommendation. SAT or ACT scores are not required for admission, but students are invited to submit their official test scores if they consider them a positive component of their admissions portfolio; NCAA athletes are required to submit SAT or ACT scores. Additional application requirements vary by academic program. Some applications are referred for augmented review (e.g., applicants with prior disciplinary violations).

Mercyhurst’s free application can be found at apply.mercyhurst.edu. Bachelor’s degree applicants can also apply via the Common Application (commonapp.org) and the Coalition Application (coalitionforcollegeaccess.org). Some application requirements might be waived at the discretion of the director of admissions.
