Course Description:
A study of the philosophical sources and significance of postmodern themes, thinkers and movements. The course will introduce students to (1) the distinction between two historical periods and intellectual epochs: modernity and postmodernity, (2) the role that postmodern thinking plays in contemporary metaphysics, epistemology, natural science, social science, religion and pop culture, and (3) various modern and postmodern philosophers and cultural theorists including Nietzsche, Heidegger, Derrida, Foucault, Lyotard, Rorty and Baudrillard.
