Course Description:

Algebra I - Support, MAT 013S, is an individualized, supplemental course that provides differentiated instruction for students that need to develop a selected skill set in Basic Mathematics designed to support the student's progress in Algebra I. This course focuses on number sense, problem solving, and critical thinking. Topics include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, fractions and decimals, ratio and proportion, percent, measurement areas and perimeters of geometric figures, Pythagorean Theorem and measures of central tendency (mean, median and mode). Applications are included as well. A grade of "C" is the minimum acceptable grade for advancement from this developmental level, MAT 013S with MAT 013, to the level of Algebra II, MAT 014, Freshman Mathematics I, MAT 101, or Mathematics I, MAT 107.
