Honor Societies

Middlesex has several honor societies for students who excel in the classroom.

Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society that recognizes the academic achievements of community college students, provides opportunities for leadership, fellowship, scholarship and the chance to be of service to fellow students and the MCC community.  Students will be invited to join if they earn a 3.5 cumulative GPA after completing a minimum of 12 credits in credit-bearing courses and have completed all required developmental coursework. Phi Theta Kappa students may be eligible to apply for over $37 million in scholarships reserved by four-year colleges nationwide. For more information, call 732.906.2590.

Alpha Mu Gamma, the national collegiate foreign language honor society, recognizes and encourages the study of cultures through foreign languages. In order to be a member, students have to have two classes of foreign language completed at the intermediate level or higher, with grades of A- or A and have an overall GPA of at least 3.0.

Psi Beta, the national psychology honor society for community colleges, recognizes and encourages scholarship and stimulates interest in psychology. Students are eligible for membership if they have completed at least one psychology course with a grade of “B” or better and have an overall GPA of at least 3.25.  For more information, call 732.906.2590.

Lambda Epsilon Chi is the honor society for the Paralegal program and recognizes excellence in that field.  To be offered admission into LEX, students are required to have completed at least 43 credits if they are pursuing the Associate in Applied Science Degree, and at least 21 credits if they are pursuing a Certificate.    They are also required to have completed 9 Legal Specialty courses if they are pursuing the Associate of Applied Science Degree program and at least 6 Legal Specialty courses if they are pursuing the Certificate Program.  All students are required to have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA and a 3.50 GPA in Legal Specialty courses.  For more information, please call 732.906.2594. 

The History and Philosophy Honor Society engages students into the arts of teaching and researching memory and traditions of thought.  If you are interested in pursuing a career in History or Philosophy, this organization will provide you with the tools and experience to accomplish that objective.  For more information on the organization and application process, please contact Professor Espinoza at cristobalz1827@portal.middlesexcc.edu
