Financial Aid

Middlesex County College makes every effort through its financial aid programs https://www.middlesexcc.edu/financial-aid/types-of-aid/ to overcome financial barriers that may prevent students from completing their education. A variety of financial resources from federal, state and institutional sources are available to those students who demonstrate need and meet eligibility requirements.

There are four basic types of financial assistance programs: grants (Federal Pell Grant and the New Jersey State Tuition Aid Grant) and scholarships that do not have to be repaid; student loans that must be repaid; and Federal Work-Study which provides part-time jobs for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. Please note that the availability of federal, state, and institutional funding for financial aid programs is dependent upon the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Students may attend one of the many FAFSA workshops available on our campuses or complete the online application through www.fafsa.gov. The FAFSA must be completed each academic year and becomes available in October. Students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Students may utilize the IRS data retrieval tool which is provided while filling out FAFSA.

Federal aid will not fund more than 30 credits of remedial courses. State aid will not fund more than five semesters of attendance at the community college level. In addition, students, who hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher, are not eligible for federal and state grants, but may be eligible for Federal Direct Student loans.

Financial Aid Verification Process

Students may be selected for a review process called verification by the federal government or by the institution either at random or due to conflicting information. Verification is the process established by the Department of Education to check the accuracy of aid applications. If the student is selected for verification, he or she will need to provide the specific documentation requested through Campus Cruiser/WebAdvisor based on academic year and dependency status.

The Financial Aid Office reviews the FAFSA application and verification documents if needed, and then develops appropriate financial aid packages for eligible students. An aid package may include a combination of grants, Federal Direct Loans and Federal Work-Study.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

In order to remain eligible for federal and state aid, students need to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress

(see the SAP section of the catalogue). The Financial Aid Office monitors the academic progress of financial aid

recipients, and cancels aid awards if students do not demonstrate SAP.

Important Priority Deadlines

There are priority deadlines in place to assure that verification is processed in time to be considered for limited institutional funds.

April 15^th, 2017 - Priority FAFSA Filing Date for Returning Students

June 1^st, 2017 - Priority FAFSA Filing Date for New Students

June 30^th, 2017 - Priority deadline to submit verification documents for all Returning/Transfer students
