Course Description:
This course has been designed for preservice teachers seeking to reinforce and solidify their own mathematical foundations, so that they may better foster their future students' mathematical growth. The concepts presented provide a broad survey of mathematical competencies important for teachers of all disciplines. The course will cover the fundamental concepts of number and quantity, estimation, algebraic functions, geometry, probability and statistics, and modeling. More specifically, the topics will include ratios and proportions, the real number system, algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities, word problems, linear and nonlinear functions, the Pythagorean Theorem, angle measure, area, surface area, volume, statistical distributions, probability models, and inferential statistics.
