The Office of Professional Admissions, part of the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions, assists with admission and financial aid-related services for applicants to certificate, associate degree, adult baccalaureate, and post-baccalaureate programs. The staff is committed to serving the diverse needs of learners who are preparing for new careers, looking for job advancement, returning to the classroom to expand their knowledge in specialized areas, seeking to complete their education, or engaging in academic pursuits for their enrichment and enjoyment. Applicants are evaluated from a holistic perspective in the context of opportunities they have been afforded and challenges they have faced.
The primary admissions requirement for students in professional programs is graduation from high school or a General Educational Development (GED) Equivalency Diploma. Other criteria may include SAT or ACT scores and a personal interview. For those applying to one of the Allied Health Programs, a Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) may also be required. Associate degree program requirements vary. Most programs require at least a 2.5 GPA and some prerequisite coursework.
Students who have previously attended a college or university must accept these transfer regulations to be accepted for certificate or degree programs. Associate degree students may transfer up to 30 credits from another college but must complete at least one-half of the major requirements at Mercyhurst.
Mercyhurst University welcomes applications from adults, defined as an individual 24 or older, or married, or a veteran of the armed forces or someone who has a dependent. Credits earned at other accredited post-secondary institutions may be transferred in and applied toward a Mercyhurst degree. Students may pursue the following programs on a full-time or part-time basis:
Adult students, including those enrolled at another post-secondary institution, may complete up to four undergraduate courses as a visiting student.
Mercyhurst University welcomes applications for post-baccalaureate programs from individuals who hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited post-secondary institution. Students may pursue the following programs on a full-time or part-time basis:
Students entering Mercyhurst University through the Office of Professional Admissions are subject to the academic policies and procedures outlined elsewhere in this catalog. This includes the ability to earn credit for life experience as outlined in the Academic Affairs section of the catalog.
The Office of Professional Admissions responds to inquiries from prospective students throughout the year. Admitted students in most programs may begin their studies in the fall, spring, or summer semesters.
Financial aid is available to eligible students in professional programming.
Many employers offer a tuition reimbursement plan for successfully completed courses. Qualifying students may defer their tuition until the end of the semester. No interest will be charged. Forms are available on the Mercyhurst University Hub.
