The course traces the historical, political, religious, and social threads of anti-Semitism from antiquity to the first decade of the 20th century. In so doing, it provides a prelude and a context for Nazi ideology in forming the Holocaust. More broadly, the course explores the ways in which cultural identity, political loyalty, and religious affiliation constitute volatile interactive forces in human history.
