A course focusing on the appreciation of popular music genres and performers in the twentieth century. While approaching popular song as an interdisciplinary art that encompasses both literary and musical forms, the class will emphasize key aesthetic and cultural questions: for example, how do we value popular music, and what role does it play in the formation of social identity?
