Community Engaged Learning

Community Engaged Learning

Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) at Middlesex College provides enriching civic engagement opportunities for Middlesex students that directly connect to their academic coursework. CEL is an experiential teaching method used to link course content to real-life experiences that focus on community needs and social justice issues. Students enrolled in CEL courses support local non-profit organizations by way of specialized projects designed specifically for their course. Students integrate their service experiences with course learning objectives through class assignments and ongoing reflection. Research shows that students who engaged in CEL classes feel more connected to the college community, have a better understanding of the course content, and a deeper understanding of social issues faced by the local community. CEL courses are currently available through most academic departments and can be viewed here.
