This Degree is designed for continued study as a Business Administration Generalist major toward a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or specifically, to Rutgers University (Newark) for a Bachelors Degree in Public Policy & Administration. This is also an appropriate major for students wishing to transfer to a four-year university or college as a Finance major. This degree prepares students for a specialization in Accounting, Business Technology, Finance, Management, Marketing, or other related business studies. Students are strongly encouraged to consult the Business Department faculty as early as possible to ensure choosing Electives acceptable to transfer institutions. The Associate in Science degree is awarded at the completion of this program.

Program Outcomes

Graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate general business knowledge (types of businesses, competition, business environment, business plans, SWOT, functions of management, marketing mix, financial statements, accounting cycle, bank reconciliation, legislation related to business, etc.)
  • Develop a clear and well-organized written, verbal, or PowerPoint presentation
  • Demonstrate general information literacy skills for business research purposes
  • Demonstrate analytical skills (including Excel) necessary to solve business problems
  • Analyze a company’s financial position

General Education:

In addition to the program-specific outcomes listed above, students completing the Associate degree programs are required to demonstrate proficiency in the General Education learning outcomes. Specific outcomes may vary by program; please refer to the program requirements below.

Program Requirements:

A. Depending upon a student's placement or for transfer purposes, this program may have pre-requisite(s). See a pathway coordinator or student development specialist for advisement.

B. If transferring to Rutgers University-Newark:

  • Accounting majors take BU 201 Business Law.
  • All non-Accounting majors take BU 208 Business Ethics. Also take BU 227 Introduction to Supply Chain Management as your Business orAccounting elective.
  • Take MA 111 Business Calculus

C. If transferring to Rutgers University-Newark as a Public Policy & Administration major:

  • Take MA 103 as the math requirement.
  • Take BU 208 Business Ethics.
  • Take BU 228 Introduction to Non-Profit Administration as the business elective.

D. If transferring to Montclair State University:

  • Accounting majors take BU 201 Business Law and BU 213 Legal Environment of Business Government and Society. Use one of these as your Business or Accounting elective.
  • All non-Accounting majors take BU 213 Legal Environment of Business Government and Society. Also take BU 216 International Business as your Business or Accounting Elective.

E. If transferring to William Paterson University:

  • Accounting majors take BU 201 Business Law.
  • All non-Accounting majors take BU 213 Legal Environment of Business Government and Society.
  • In the Third Semester at PCCC, students must take BU 206 and in the fourth semester students must take required math.
  • Take BU 207 Business Statistics II as your Business or Accounting Elective.

F. Students should seek advice from department faculty when selecting a math course and BU 201 or BU 213. Course selections are driven by transfer institution requirements.

G. MA 108 is a prerequisite for any of the Mathematics (MA) courses listed or test placement. CIS 101 or CIS 107 is a prerequisite for CIS 125. (Test out option for CIS 101 available. Please see Testing and Tutoring in Memorial Hall 240.)

H. If students take MA 103 or MA-110, they must take either AC-203 or EN-103. If students take MA-109 or MA-111, students are NOT required to take either AC-203 or EN-103.

I. It is recommended that students enroll in their first WI course upon completion of EN 101.

Important Note

NOTE: In the third Semester, PCCC students intending to transfer to William Paterson University must take BU 206 instead of the Math course and in the fourth semester, students must take the required Math course instead of BU 206. If ANY student takes a 4 credit Math Course; the AC-203 or EN-103 will be waived.
