Associate in Arts

This option is for a well-rounded liberal arts education flexible enough to allow concentration in a particular field of interest in music while exploring new interests through electives.

Program Outcomes

Graduates will be able to:

  • Read and identify musical notation at a competent level.
  • Define and describe musical terminology.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of scales.
  • Understand and identify key signatures, intervals, and chords.
  • Transfer into a bachelor’s degree program in music at four-year colleges and universities.

General Education:

In addition to the program-specific outcomes listed above, students completing the Associate degree programs are required to demonstrate proficiency in the General Education learning outcomes. Specific outcomes may vary by program; please refer to the program requirements below.

Program Requirements:

A. Depending upon a student's placement or for transfer purposes, this program may have pre-requisite(s). See a pathway coordinator or student development specialist for advisement.

B. It is recommended that students enroll in their first WI course upon completion of EN 101.

C. COL 103 (College Success) is highly recommended to be taken in the First (1st) Semester by students in this major.

D. Students transferring to William Paterson University must take SO 102, Institutional Racism. All other students: please see other Diversity course choices.
