Exercise Science


Associate in Science

This option is designed to promote job placement and career advancement in the field of exercise. The program will enable students to begin work in the field and advance academically and professionally as Fitness Specialists. As graduates with an A.S. degree, they will be able to work in a broad spectrum of Fitness Specialist and Wellness Coordinator positions. The A.S. degree program is also keyed to promote academic advancement into baccalaureate programs, either into advanced practice programs or into new career paths.

Program Outcomes

  • Integrate knowledge and skills from the sciences, liberal arts, and exercise science into Fitness/Wellness care.
  • Design a healthy lifestyle program for the average adult based on ethical decision-making and sensitivity to unique cultural considerations.
  • Instruct clients in a variety of fitness and recreational activities.
  • Assist in the making of services in health and fitness facilities.
  • Communicate effectively with consumers, providers, employees, and other allied health professionals from diverse backgrounds.

General Education:

In addition to the program-specific outcomes listed above, students completing the Associate degree programs are required to demonstrate proficiency in the General Education learning outcomes. Specific outcomes may vary by program; please refer to the program requirements below.

Program Requirements:

A. Depending upon a student's placement or for transfer purposes, this program may have pre-requisite(s). See a pathway coordinator or student development specialist for advisement.

B.MA 108 is a prerequisite for MA 109 or test placement.

C. A minimum grade of “C” is required in all Math & Science courses.

D. It is recommended that students enroll in their first WI course upon completion of EN 101. For a list of WI courses available for registration, go to: www.pccc.edu/home/writing-intensive-courses

E. Successful completion of MA 025 or MA 025AMA 025B sequence is required for this degree. It is recommended that students complete this requirement prior to taking college-level Math & Science courses for this program.
