This Certificate program is designed for those who wish to become proficient in the fundamentals of Networking technology, security and the latest Windows Operating System. It provides breadth and depth in the full range of technology needed for a career in networking administration and networking security. It can be taken either as a stand alone certificate or as an addition to the standard A.A.S. Degree in Computer Information Technology.
The Certificate Program serves as preparation for the Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist (MCTS) and Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)examinations, as well as the CompTIA Network+ and Security+ exams. It meets the training needs of those entering the workforce for the first time, those re-entering the job market, or those who are currently employed and seeking a career change.

This course introduces students to a current Linux operating system distribution. Topics include customization, managing user accounts, using operating system utilities, managing files, multitasking, installing and running applications, installing device drivers and new hardware, setting up a network, installing Linux, security, and performing basic system maintenance and troubleshooting.

This course provides students with the background necessary to master vendor-independent networking concepts. It introduces the conceptual building blocks that form modern-day networks, such as protocols, topologies, hardware, and network operating systems. It also provides a foundation in current networking technologies for local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), wireless transmission, and security. Successful completion of this course prepares students to take the CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association’s) Network+ certification exam and Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) exam.

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to plan, install, and configure a Client Operating System. Students learn to perform day-to-day administration tasks such as managing user accounts, groups, and policies, as well as printing services. Students also learn how to use the desktop interface and tools necessary for implementing and configuring an industrial-strength Client OS, which administers small or large networks. Successful completion of this course prepares students to take the appropriate Industry Certification exam.
CIS 180 - Networking Essentials
Fall Day, Spring Evening
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to plan, install, and configure a server operating system (Windows 2016 and 2019 Server). It enhances students’ ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot server-based networks. The server environment may include multiple servers in one or more domains, and may have file-sharing or print-sharing capabilities. Students gain knowledge to perform day-to-day administrative tasks in a server-based environment, using a server operating system. Successful completion of this course prepares students to take the appropriate industry certification exam. Offered nights only in Fall;offered days only in Spring.
CIS 180 - Networking Essentials
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to configure TCP/IP network infrastructures and their related services. Students learn how to implement, administer, and troubleshoot Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, Name Resolution Services, Remote Access, Distributed Files System, Windows Deployment Services, Windows Server Update Services, Group Policies and Network Policy. Students learn how to use network monitoring tools in an enterprise operating system. Successful completion of this course prepares students to take the appropriate industry certification exam.
CIS 282 - Network Administration II

This course introduces students to the basics of network security principles, including authentication methods, malicious code, and network and wireless security techniques to safeguard against intrusions on file transfer services, email, and web applications. Students will also learn how this field relates to other areas of information technology. Students will gain network security practice using hands-on lab exercises. This course prepares students for CompTIA’s Security+ certification exam and an entry-level information security position in the IT field.
