Schedule of Courses

A schedule of course offerings is published in advance of each semester and is available on the College’s website. Each semester currently includes a 15-week term, a 12-week term and two 6.5-week terms. Not every course is offered each term. Each term has specific drop/ withdrawal dates which can be found on the PCCC website Key Dates and Deadlines.

How to read the schedule:
Each section listed in the schedule includes a subject code, course number and section code. The section code identifies the delivery method/campus and time of day. The first 1 – 2 characters indicate delivery method/location:

M – Main Campus,

W – WAC – Wanaque Academic Center

S – PSA – PCCC Public Safety Academy

P – PAC – Passaic Academic Center

R- Remote- delivery via zoom

OL- Online

The next 2 characters indicate day, evening, or Saturday:

01, 02, 03…daytime,

E1, E2, E3…evening,

W1, W2, W3…Saturday or Sunday.

Hybrid courses are online courses that have a component on campus – the first character indicates which campus it is on followed by HY.

PCCC offers dual enrollment courses with area high schools. These courses have HS as a location code and are restricted to students in the Dual Enrollment Program. For more information about Dual Enrollment go to (insert Link to Tonya’s info)

Course Descriptions
All PCCC courses are listed in this catalog https://catalog.pccc.edu/2023_2024/draft/courses/. Each course consists of a subject code (department), course number, title, credits and description. The courses are listed in alphabetical order. Also listed here are any prerequisites and/or co-requisites required by the course and indications if the course has limited offerings. If a course description does not list a specific requirement, the successful demonstration of proficiency in basic academic skills is understood.

Pre-requisites and Co-Requisites
Pre-requisites consist of a course, courses, or competencies that a student must have completed before being allowed to register for a more advanced course in the same or related subject area. Co-requisites are courses that a student is required to take while enrolled or prior to enrollment in another related course. If a course description does not list a specific requirement, the successful demonstration of proficiency in basic academic skills is understood.

New students are evaluated to determine appropriate placement for college-level studies. This includes evaluating previous educational records and/or the results of placement tests administered by the College.

Credit Hour Requirement
“Semester credit hour” means a minimum of 750 minutes of formalized instruction that typically requires students to work on out-of-class assignments at least twice the amount of time as the amount of formalized instruction (1,500 minutes). It is acknowledged that formalized instruction may take place in a variety of modes. Due to the fact that the pace of reading, writing, and other activities varies widely, time spent in any of these areas will not be identical for all students, instructors and courses. Rather assigned activities should reflect a reasonable expectation by the instructor based on the time it would take to meet the learning objectives of the course or assignment.

The college offers two traditional 15-week terms, a 12-week term, two 6.5-week terms plus a winter-session and summer terms. A Master grid has been developed for these terms to ensure that courses meet for the appropriate amount of time (typically a 3-credit course in the 15-week term will meet twice a week for 75 minutes or once a week for 150 minutes). Class times are proportionally adjusted to be consistent with institutional policy for terms of shorter duration including Summer sessions.
