2. Financial Aid Programs

Federal Aid Programs—Title IV

Federal Pell Grant

The Higher Education Act of 1972 established this grant program to provide aid to needy students attending college. Students must meet eligibility requirements and must be pursuing a degree program or eligible certificate program. The Certificate of Achievement (less than 30 credits) programs are not eligible for financial aid. Students attending more than one institution in an award year may only receive a Pell Grant at one school.

Federal Supplementary Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG)

This program awards funds to undergraduate students with the greatest need.

Federal Work-Study

The Federal Work-Study Program provides employment opportunities for students who need additional funds to help meet their educational expenses. To be considered as a candidate for the work-study program a student must
1) file a FAFSA,
2) be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident,
3) be enrolled in an undergraduate academic program,
4) be registered for at least 6 or more credits,
5) meet the financial aid standards of satisfactory academic progress and
6) be in good academic standing.

Students may work off-campus as part of the Community Service Program. Jobs could be in areas of welfare, social services, public safety, recreation, youth corps, or support services for students with disabilities or mentoring activities.

Direct Loans

PCCC participates in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program, commonly known as Direct Lending. Our participation in this program allows you to borrow directly from the U.S. Department of Education. The Direct Loan program enables eligible applicants and their parents to obtain a student loan (Subsidized or Unsubsidized) or parent loan (PLUS) to meet their educationally related expenses.All students are awarded a Direct Loan and other federal and state aid. The Offer Letter is sent to students via their portal email account. Students can view and access their Offer Letter in the Financial Aid Self-Service Menu. Students who are awarded a Direct Loan, must accept or decline the loan. Funds will not be disbursed unless the student has completed an Entrance Counseling, and a Master Promissory Note and confirmation of enrollment in at least 6 credits.

 

State of New Jersey Financial Assistance Programs

Tuition Aid Grant (TAG)

The Tuition Aid Grant provides financial assistance to full-time or part-time college students (enrolled for at least 6 credits) who have been residents of New Jersey for twelve (12) consecutive months prior to enrollment. To be considered for an award, a student must complete a FAFSA and a Tuition Aid Grant Application. The TAG application can be accessed after the student has submitted his/her FAFSA or by going to the Higher Education Assistance Authority website, www.hesaa.org.

Community College Opportunity Grant (CCOG)

The Community College Opportunity Grant is a New Jersey State last dollar award program, which can help pay the balance of your tuition charges for a student who enrolls in at least 6 credits for Fall 2024 and/or Spring 2025, and who have an adjusted gross income of $0-$65,000. Students whose family income is between $65,001 and $80,000 may be eligible to receive up to ½ of tuition charges. To be considered for the grant eligible citizens or permanent residents must complete the 2024-2025 FAFSA.

DACA students or those considered NJ Dreamer must complete the NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application. 

Garden State Scholars Program

Based on academic achievement, this program assists full-time students. Applicants must be residents of New Jersey for 12 consecutive months prior to application.  

NJSTARS

This merit-based program is offered to students who graduate within the top 15% of their New Jersey high school graduating class. The scholarship may cover all or a part of the student’s tuition and fees. For more information, go to Fact Sheet for 2024 HS Grad.pdf (hesaa.org)

EOF

Instituted and sponsored by the State of New Jersey, The Educational Opportunity Fund is an academic support program providing access to higher education for students who show potential but who need additional support services and financial aid to succeed academically. All students accepted into the EOF Program must attend full-time, be pursuing a degree, be residents of the State of New Jersey for at least one year, meet all program requirements, and be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

Academic Scholarships

The College Foundation offers a number of academic scholarship opportunities. For a list of scholarships and applications, please contact the office of the Dean of Student Affairs.

Need-Based Scholarships

Students interested in applying for a need-based scholarship, must download the application from the PCCC Financial Aid https://pccc.edu/paying-for-college/financial-aid/. The scholarship awards are intended to assist students in meeting their tuition and/or book expenses. The scholarship amount is awarded and prorated based on the number of enrolled credits. The scholarship award is not refundable.
