PCCC follows the credit hour definition of New Jersey Administrative Code 9A:1-1.2: "Semester credit hour" means 150 minutes of academic work each week for 15 weeks in one semester, which is typically accomplished by 50 minutes of face-to-face class activity each week complemented by at least 100 minutes each week of laboratory or outside assignments (or the equivalent thereof for semesters of different length) but may also be accomplished through an equivalent amount of academic work as established by an institution, which may include additional class time, laboratory work, internships, practical studio work, and other forms of academic work.
PCCC follows a traditional model with mostly 3-credit courses. However, using this calculation, credits may be adjusted based on content. These requirements are discipline specific and could relate to requirements for national certification or internships.
The PCCC Assessment Committee reviews new courses, revisions to current courses and programs before they are submitted to the College's Curriculum Committee. After careful review, the Curriculum Committee will forward the proposal to the PCCC Academic Council for approval. It is the charge of each of these committees to review and approve the curriculum to ensure it follows all accreditation guidelines. Approved proposals are sent through the college governance.
