Course Description:
This course will explore how gender has historically been defined and subsequently communicated through images, language and myths through the media which tends to socialize, educate, and discipline sometimes in the guise of entertainment. Such stereotypes impose upon men and women the expectations of society telling them how they should act, what they should desire, who they should strive to be, and how they should value themselves; those who don't conform are often conesored. Awareness of these issues should motivate students to incorporate different pointes of view into their own thinking and behavior, specifically to intervene when they hear others perpetuate biases, to advocate for continued parity, and to make informed personal decisions about how to live, work and vote.
