Counseling Center

The Counseling Center offers counseling as well as a variety of programs designed to support and enhance students’ well-being and personal growth. Services are geared towards helping students resolve emotional and relationship concerns, improve personal skills, have a successful university experience, and reach individual goals.

Counseling services are confidential and free to any student who is currently enrolled. The staff is comprised of licensed psychologists, social workers and/or counselors with significant experience in working with young adults. These clinicians provide individual counseling, group therapy, and crisis intervention, along with workshops and consultation.

The counselors also make referrals to other professionals and agencies as appropriate. Crisis counseling is available for emergencies evenings and weekends when the campus is not on a break or during summer session. The Counseling Center can help connect students receiving ongoing counseling center services with a community psychiatrist.

The Counseling Center is located on the second floor of the Cohen Student Health Center. It is open from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the in-session academic year and closed during the summer months. Students may present with concerns about the normal transitions of leaving home, managing stress, and developing healthy relationships. Additionally, counselors work with students experiencing depression, anxiety, loss or trauma, and other behavioral health issues. In many instances, students may find that a relatively short period of counseling allows them to readily resolve a concern.

In some circumstances, issues may be more complex and require a longer exploration of the psychological, relational, or emotional concerns. The Counseling Center can assist students in finding appropriate treatment resources and programs in the community when needed. Whatever the presenting problem, counseling seeks to help individuals more fully realize their personal worth and potential and more successfully engage in life at Mercyhurst University and prepare

for life after university. To schedule an appointment with a counselor, call the Counseling Center at 814-824-3650.
