Submitting Graduate Admission Applications

Prospective students are encouraged to apply online at apply.mercyhurst.edu.

Admission decisions are based on the “whole person” concept. Elements of this approach include quality of undergraduate work as evidenced by transcripts, performance on standardized tests, a personal statement, and, when required, a personal interview.

Students who seek admission to graduate education at Mercyhurst are expected to meet the minimum requirements as listed below, noting that there may be additional requirements unique to each program. Specific program requirements are listed in that program’s section. Students will submit the following items as proof of meeting minimum requirements:

  • A completed application form, which can be found online at www.mercyhurst.edu/graduate. The Master’s of Science in Athletic Training program requires application via ATCAS, available at https://atcas.liaisoncas.com, while applications for the Masters of Physician Assistant Studies program must be submitted via CASPA, available at https://caspa.liasoncas.com.
  • A current professional résumé or curriculum vitae.
  • An undergraduate degree in the area of intended graduate study or in an approved, related field. All official transcripts from accredited higher education institutions are required to apply. Transcripts from international universities must be evaluated by World Education Services or an equivalent service approved by the Office of GPA. Please use “course-by-course report”.
  • An undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 overall, with at least 3.0 in their major field. (Some programs have established higher requirements.)
  • Academic, scholarship and leadership potential as evidenced by at least one (1) academic reference. Some programs request up to three positive recommendations.
  • A personal statement outlining in narrative form the candidate’s career path, career aspirations and professional interests.
  • Some programs will request satisfactory scores from the Miller Analogies Test or the Graduate Record Exam.
  • Some programs may require or request a personal interview.

Conditional Admission Policy:

Students failing to meet the 3.0 GPA academic requirement for admission into a graduate program, but who show potential for success can be granted conditional admission status. Conditional admission is granted at the discretion of the specific department, with the consent of the Office of Academic Affairs. Students admitted conditionally can take up to three (3) graduate courses in consultation with the department. If students earn a B or better for all classes they will be admitted fully into the program.
