Student Life
Mercyhurst University is a community of learning dedicated to the lifelong development of the whole person in the context of our Mercy heritage and Catholic tradition. Student Life is an integral part of our students’ education. We are committed to supporting each student’s development, not only academically, but also as an engaged and contributing member of our campus community. Recognizing that learning happens both inside and outside the classroom, Mercyhurst provides a vibrant campus environment with a variety of developmental, cultural, service, leadership, athletic, and social experiences.
Mercyhurst provides a well-rounded program of events and activities. Each semester dance, theatre, and music performances are held on campus, as well as art exhibitions featuring works by both faculty and students in the university’s gallery. Throughout the academic year, the university sponsors a film series showcasing award-winning foreign and domestic films. Mercyhurst Student Government (MSG) hosts a range of guest speakers who visit campus to engage with the community.
In addition to these regularly scheduled social activities, the university celebrates several major events throughout the year. For Hurst Day, an amazing annual event, all classes are canceled, and the entire community takes part in games, food and fun! Other special events are hosted throughout the year, including Family Weekend, Mass of the Holy Spirit, Homecoming, and Laker Fest.
The Student Handbook
In addition to this catalog, the university publishes the Student Handbook. The handbook is written to provide students with an understanding of the culture and community of Mercyhurst University and to provide behavioral standards and consequences for misbehavior. Included in the handbook is information about university departments and offices, the Student Conduct Code, residential policies, etc. Students must understand the information contained in the handbook and should seek clarification of that information as needed. The handbook is available to all students on the university’s website at http://mercyhurst.edu/handbook.
