Course Description:

This course provides students with an understanding of the purposes and process of criminal and civil law in the United States. Among the topics covered are: the origins, development, and function of the law; the structure and function of courts, legislatures, and administrative agencies; the commercialization of the legal profession; the politicalization of punishment; race, class, gender and the law; law and social control; and the role of law in social change.
