Course Description:
The purpose of this course is to introduce first year Athletic Training students to the allied health profession, injury/illness pathophysiology and evaluation. History of their desired profession, necessary educational background and job opportunities will be discussed in order to promote professional development. Students will gain knowledge of the tissue injury cycle at the cellular level, which allows the students to have a complete understanding of the healing process. The evaluation sequence, along with proper documentation, will be introduced and students are encouraged to apply this knowledge. Throughout the course students will be using and focusing on their critical thinking skills in relation to their profession. Students are required to complete 25 hours of clinical observation. Prerequisites: BIO 130, BIO 131. 3 credits.
