New Jersey Aid Programs

New Jersey Tuition Aid Grant (TAG)

The Tuition Aid Grant (TAG) is available for full and part-time undergraduate students who have been legal residents of New Jersey for at least 12 consecutive months prior to enrolling in a New Jersey institution.  Students who have received an associates/baccalaureate degree and beyond do not qualify for any state aid at a two-year college.  Awards vary from year to year.

The New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) uses a State Formula to determine eligibility.

The New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund provides financial assistance and support services (e.g. counseling, tutoring, and developmental course work) to students from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds who attend institutions of higher education in the State of New Jersey.  These grants are renewable based upon continued eligibility.

 

Educational Opportunity Fund Program

  • Students must comply with requests from HESAA within established State deadlines.
  • The student is notified via a Student Eligibility Notice (SEN) from the State

    Community College Opportunity Grant

  • The Community College Opportunity Grant (CCOG) awards pay for the cost of tuition (at the in-county rate) and approved educational fees for New Jersey residents with an annual adjusted gross income (AGI) between $0 and $65,000. New Jersey residents with AGIs between $65,001 and $80,000 pay reduced tuition costs up to 50% of the maximum CCOG award available at their community college. CCOG covers the cost of tuition and approved educational fees that are not already covered by federal and state financial aid or scholarships. 
  • The College uses State guidelines to determine eligibility.
  • Students are notified by HESAA of potentail program eligibility.

    NJ STARS

    The New Jersey Student Tuition Assistance Reward Scholarship (NJ STARS) Program is an initiative created by the State of New Jersey that provides New Jersey’s highest achieving students with free tuition at their home county college. The NJ STARS award covers the cost of tuition, less any State and/or Federal grants and scholarships, with free tuition, up to 18 college level credits, for up to five semesters.  Upon graduating, eligible students may transfer into a New Jersey four-year participating institution under the NJ STARS II program.  The NJ STARS II Program is a continuation of the NJ STARS Program that provides successful NJ STARS students at New Jersey county colleges with funding to transfer to a New Jersey four-year college/ university to earn a bachelor’s degree.
