Military-Affiliated Applicants (Veterans, National Guard/Reserve, Active Duty or Military Dependents)

Military-Affiliated Applicants (Veterans, National Guard/Reserve, Active Duty or Military Dependents)

Middlesex College is proud of its approximately 100 students who have served in the U.S military or are military dependents. To support these brave men and women during their transition to college life, Middlesex College created a Veterans Services Center. This Center has received national recognition for its excellence in providing service and support to our military-affiliated students. One of these awards is having been designated by the Military Times as a Best for Vets college, ranked 7th in the Mid-Atlantic. Middlesex College was also honored in 2022, receiving the New Jersey’s Governor “We Value Our Veterans” Academia Award.

All veterans, service members, and dependents considering becoming a Middlesex College student should contact the Veterans Services Center as early as possible to ensure they receive earned benefits in a timely fashion. Middlesex College is proud to offer eligible military-affiliated students access to priority registration, affording them the opportunity to register for courses earlier than new students. Military-affiliated students can also take advantage of the Veterans Study Lounge to study, meet with fellow student veterans, and spend some free time between classes. The Veterans Study Lounge is located in College Center Room 104.

Veterans who have been honorably discharged, or current members of the National Guard or Reserves may have their application fees waived. Please contact the Veterans Services Center prior to applying to the college for more information about the application fee waiver.

The Veterans Services Center certifies the enrollment status of all students who qualify for education entitlements through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs®.

Military-affiliated students wanting to utilize their education benefits and have their entitlements certified by the Veterans Services Center must submit a DD Form 214, an education benefit Certificate of Eligibility, the Middlesex College Request for Certification Form, and the Middlesex College Statement of Responsibility Form.

Veterans who are members of the Reserve Component or National Guard may be eligible for veterans’ entitlements under the Montgomery GI Bill – Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606). New Jersey National Guard members who are in good standing with their unit, and who have applied for federal financial aid, may be eligible to utilize NJDMAVA Form 621-2-R (Commander’s Certificate of Eligibility) to waive their tuition cost for up to 16 credits each semester.

Dependents of veterans who served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001, may be eligible for education benefits under the following programs: Dependents’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35), Fry Scholarship, and Post-9/11 G.I. Bill (Chapter 33 – Transfer of Entitlement). For additional information regarding eligibility and the application process, please contact the Veterans Services Center.

Veterans who have been determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs® to have a service-connected disability may be eligible for education benefits and other entitlements through the Department of Veterans Affairs’® Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) (Chapter 31) program. Middlesex College is the only community college in New Jersey that has a VA VetSuccess on Campus (VSOC) counselor dedicated to supporting students qualified for Chapter 31 benefits. Veterans who believe they are eligible should contact the Veterans Services Center for more information.

To maintain receipt of entitlements at Middlesex College, military-affiliated students must comply with the Standards of Progress established by the college. These standards include meeting academic degree requirements, abiding by standards and regulations, and complying with the college’s Code of Student Conduct. Failure to observe and/or comply with these standards and regulations may jeopardize the student’s receipt of entitlements.

Furthermore, Middlesex College agrees to follow the guidelines set forth by the Veterans Benefits and Transition Act of 2018 (Public Law 115-407).

To find out more about military-affiliated education benefit entitlements or to receive additional information, please contact the Veterans Services Center.
