Course Description:
The study of strength of materials with emphasis on practical applications. Topics include: axial stress and strain, material properties, torsion stress and strain, shear and moment diagrams, bending shear stresses, beam design, theoretical and specification column analysis and design, connection analysis and combined stresses using Mohr's Circle. Weekly laboratory experiments and formal written reports are used to reinforce lecture material. Students are required to present one oral presentation during the semester.
