Essentials of Oceanography

Course Description : The focus of this course is on the physical aspects of the world's oceans; the architecture of ocean basins, plate tectonics and tsunamis, the distribution of marine sediments, oceanic circulation and productivity, and the effects of deep ocean circulation on world climate. Geology, chemistry, physics and biology are addressed as interactive and interdependent systems. The history of marine exploration, marine fauna and flora, shore processes, and environmental concerns will also be covered.
